Professional Learning Series
Dr. Victor Rios | Dr. Rebeca Mireles-Rios | Audrey Lee, M.Ed
This Classroom Application Handbook is a companion to From Risk to Promise, A School Leader’s Guide to Professional Learning in Prosperity-Based Education.
Since the publication of the first From Risk to Promise, we have been thrilled and honored with the positive feedback we have received from educators, who have been our Prosperity-based modules. It has been gratifying to work with districts across the country who embrace our at-promise mindset.
Based on the professional learning experiences and conversations with educators, we created this companion book for our Educators of Prosperity. This handbook follows the same sessions as the original From Risk to Promise and provides additional classroom strategies and tasks, teacher resources, and tips for leveling up your game. We hope this will be a valuable next step on your journey towards student prosperity.
For educational leaders who plan to deliver these modules with their staff, we recommend A School Leader’s Guide to Professional Learning in Prosperity-Based Education. Our program provides school leaders the necessary tools to deliver a full year (12 total modules) of high-quality professional learning. Each research-based session includes comprehensive lesson plans for leaders to build and sustain an At-Promise mindset across entire school systems. Created using field-tested best practices for educator professional development, educators will collaborate, receive practical classroom strategies, and grapple with the challenges required to create equitable, At-Promise systems for all students.
For classroom teachers who wish to embark on this work with their PLC teams, we recommend the Self-Study Toolkit for Teachers. This guide mirrors our volume for school leaders, but is designed with independent teacher teams in mind. When our book From Risk to Promise, A School Leader’s Guide to Professional Learning in Prosperity-Based Education was released, we received overwhelming requests from classroom teachers for a version of their own. These educators were passionate about engaging in the work of equity, and eager to begin growing and changing as at-promise educators. As a result, we created this book for our Teacher Rebels: educators who understand the importance of creating classrooms of prosperity and are committed to beginning that journey today.

At Scholar System, we know nothing will change systemically until classroom practice changes.
